TRAUMA INFORMED CARE: What does it mean?

Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) is an approach to treatment that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on an individual’s physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. It acknowledges that many behaviors, mental health symptoms, and challenges in daily functioning can be traced back to past traumatic experiences, including abuse, neglect, loss, or exposure to substance use and violence. Trauma-informed care emphasizes safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment in all aspects of treatment.

Impact on an Individual’s Life:
Trauma can significantly affect a person’s ability to regulate emotions, form healthy relationships, perform academically or professionally, and maintain overall mental health. By receiving trauma-informed care, individuals can begin to:

  • Understand and process their experiences without judgment.

  • Develop healthy coping strategies for managing stress and triggers.

  • Rebuild trust and improve interpersonal relationships.

  • Reduce the likelihood of ongoing maladaptive behaviors such as substance use, aggression, or self-harm.

Why Treatment Through Bobby Benson Center (BBC) Services is Vital:
BBC provides trauma-informed residential, outpatient, and intensive outpatient services that are specifically designed for youth and families who have experienced significant adversity.
By integrating trauma-informed care into every aspect of treatment, BBC helps Individuals not only heal from past trauma but also build the skills and confidence to lead healthier, more stable lives.
